The application procedures for the position of Rector of the University of Minho 2017/2021 start on July 22nd and end on September 15th 2017. The applicants can be currently active Ph. D. professors or researchers, either from UMinho or from other national and international higher education and research institutions. 

The applicants’ interviews will take place on October 23rd, whilst the election will take place on October 24th 2017.

It is the General Council’s responsibility to organise the election procedures and elect the Rector, as stipulated under the line d) of the no.1 of the Article 29 and the no. 1 of the Article 38 of the UMinho Statutes, approved by the Order no.14/2016 of November 17th, published in the Portuguese Official Gazette, no. 228 -2nd series of November 28th 2016. 
As such, during the June 10th 2017 plenary session, the Election Board was appointed. Luís Valente de Oliveira, President of the UMinho’s General Council will lead the Election Board. In the same session the Election Regulation, the Election Calendar and the Public Notice were also approved.
